In the South West of England, our local services are provided through a team of home-based family workers and volunteer parent representatives.
Our family workers offer parents one-to-one help and support through times of need.
Our volunteer parent representatives are all parents of disabled children and offer peer support and local signposting.
Formed in 2005, Parent Carer Council for Cornwall the Parent Carers works with service providers to use the unique experiences parent carers have in raising their disabled children to help inform and develop services.
The Parent Carer Council provides a united voice and creates a forum for parent carers views.
The range of opportunities for volunteering include:
If you are a parent carer and are interested in finding out about how you can get involved please contact us.
The Parent Partnership Service gives independent, impartial and confidential support to Parents and Carers of Children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in Cornwall to assist them with making choices about their children's education. Advice is given around choosing schools, the Code of practice and Statementing procedures and support can be given before, during and after meetings with schools and other SEN professionals.
Our Parent Partnership Officers also work with schools to develop good working practices with parents. A free accreditated course to parents is ran on a regular basis called 'Parents and carers guide to SEN'
We hope to develop an Independent Supporter Service within the next year to increase the capacity of the service and ensure that parents can be provided with further ongoing support should they require it. If you are interested in volunteering please contact us to find out more.
