Necrotising Fasciitis

Background

Necrotising Fasciitis (NF) is a rare, but serious soft tissue infection caused by bacteria that affects deep tissue under the skin.

Risk factors for infection include lowered immunity, which occurs in people with Diabetes Mellitus, Cancer and those receiving immunosuppressive treatments. Healthy children whose skin is broken by minor trauma or skin infection are also at increased risk – especially if they have recently had Chicken Pox.
