Immune (Idiopathic) Thrombocytopenic Purpura
Background
Childhood Immune (Idiopathic) Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP) is a disorder that affects around 4 in 100,000 children every year. Its basis is a dramatic and often sudden reduction in the number of circulating platelets - small blood cells that have an essential role in the prevention of bleeding.
