Information and support
We offer information and support to parents and carers of children with any special need or disability as well as professionals working with families.
Advice
We can give advice on specific issues such as education, welfare rights, housing and social services. We are also able to assist parent carers with any correspondence, grant and benefit applications and liaison with other organisations.
Library service
We offer access to a well-stocked library covering specific disabling conditions and syndromes, current legislation and details of national and local support networks for parent carers. We can also provide free access to the Internet for any parent member.
Drop-in session
We hold parent-link drop-in sessions during term time. In addition we run support groups on particular issues such as transition and rare syndromes. All provide an opportunity to talk to other parents, share ideas and information and meet relevant professionals. We can also link you with other families in the UK via our helpline.
Contact a Family Ealing has a membership of over 250 families. Members receive a bi-monthly newsletter, which keeps them up to date with news and developments both locally and nationally. Our UK office also produces a range of publications, which are available from the Ealing office.
Contact a Family Ealing provides student work placements for young people with disabilities as well as volunteering opportunities at our office base to gain charity administration experience.
We also recruit volunteers over the age of sixteen to staff our holiday playschemes, outings and parties.
Contact a Family has entered into a pilot project with Citizens Advice Bureau to improve the supply of face to face debt advice to families with disabled children. The Greater London area is one of the pilot areas in which the new service has started. There are seven workers based in Camden CAB who offer advice and help for families with disabled children anywhere in the Greater London area. They will arrange to visit you at home anywhere in London. If you would like to make an appointment, please call the Contact a Family helpline on Tel: 0808 808 3555 and we will arrange an appointment for you.
Contact a Family Ealing receives grant aid from Ealing Council but we rely heavily on donations from individuals and grant-giving organisations. If you would like to help our project by making a donation or taking part in a fundraising event, we would be pleased to hear from you.
